Pipeline accident aftermath eliminated
The repair operations on a section of the Baku-Novorossiysk
northern route oil export pipeline that started in the Russian
republic of Daghestan following an accident early on Sunday were
completed on the following day.
The Daghestan police have come up with three theories on the
developments. Investigators presume that the accident could have
resulted from a crack on the welded section of the pipe. Another
supposition is that thieves could have pinched the pipeline in an
attempt to siphon oil. A subversion is not ruled out either.
The 100 tons of crude that were spilled due to the accident were
prevented from flowing into the Caspian Sea.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry's Daghestan department said the
consequences of the spill had been fully eliminated by cleaning up
80 tons of oil that flew into the Rubas river.
