Azerbaijan to raise gas supplies to Greece - minister
Azerbaijan will increase the volume of natural gas
supplied to Greece, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has
said.
Speaking at a news briefing with his counterpart, Dora Bakoyannis, in Baku on Thursday, Mammadyarov said the parties had reached agreement to that end.
"Starting this year, part of Azerbaijani gas is being exported to Greece. Now, we have agreed for its volume to somewhat increase," he said.
The Azerbaijani minister noted that the Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline is one of the main options for diversifying supplies of gas from the South Caucasus republic to world markets.
"Talks on this project are underway. In our view, the implementation of this project has moved ahead, unlike other projects on [exporting] Azerbaijani gas."
Bakoyannis, for her part, said the project was of great importance for Athens, adding that advances had been achieved in beginning the increased exports.
