BP Azerbaijan produced 252m barrels from ACG in 2008
BP Azerbaijan, the operator of large-scale energy projects in the country, produced 252 million barrels of oil from the major Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) fields in the Caspian Sea in 2008.
Further, average production from Chirag, Central Azeri, West Azeri, East Azeri and Deep-Water Gunashli was 688,500 barrels per day, or 34 million tons, the company said.
121,800 bpd were extracted from the Chirag platform, while 196,000 bpd from Central Azeri, 209,300 bpd from West Azeri, 113,100 bpd from East Azeri, and the remaining 48,300 bpd from Deep-Water Gunashli.
Also, the daily flow-rate from the five platforms made up 738,000 barrels in the first quarter of 2008.
BP Azerbaijan plans to produce an average of 702,000 bpd in 2009.
The company also said the project on increasing daily output capacity of the BP-operated Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline, which transports Azerbaijan`s crude through Georgia and Turkey to 1.2 million barrels has been completed.
The capacity of the conduit, which began exporting crude in 2006, had been brought to 1 million bpd by mid-2008.
Capital expenses on the BTC`s maintenance amounted to $164 million in 2008. A total of $18m had been spent in the first quarter of this year. Spending is forecast at $143m in 2009.
Since the first tanker filled with BTC oil was lifted at the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan on June 4, 2006, about 600 million barrels, or 80 million tons, have been loaded onto 760 tankers and delivered to world markets.
A total of 245.6m barrels (32.9m tons) of oil and condensate were exported through the BTC in 2008 and 65m barrels (8.7m tons) in Q1 2009.
The pipeline is transporting oil produced from the ACG fields, condensate from the country`s Shahdaniz field, as well as crude from across the Caspian - Kazakhstan`s Tengiz field.
The first batch of Tengiz oil was pumped into the pipeline in October 2008. Oil from the Central Asian state is transported via the BTC pipeline under the contract negotiated by BTC Co., the consortium of companies that built the conduit and TengizChevroil, the operator of the Kazakh field.
As for gas production, 7.1 billion cubic meters of gas and 1.8 million tons of condensate were produced at Shahdaniz in 2008. Further, BP Azerbaijan plans to extract 7.7bn cu. m. of gas and 1.9m tons of condensate from the field in 2009.
In the first quarter of this year, the figures were 2bn cu. m. and 500,000 tons respectively.
Daily flow-rate from Shahdaniz is currently about 22m cu. m. of gas. Production is expected to rise further as new wells come on-stream in the coming years.
Record output level during Phase 1 of Shahdaniz development is projected at 8.6bn cu. m. of gas.
Gas produced from the field during the first stage of the project continues to be sold to Azerbaijan, Georgia`s GOGC, Turkish state-controlled natural gas monopoly Botas and BTC Company.
