Azerbaijan, San-Marino mull expansion of cultural cooperation

Azerbaijan and San Marino’s officials have discussed the expansion of cultural cooperation between the two countries.

Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev met with San Marino’s Foreign Minister for Pasquale Valentini on September 9, AzerTac state news agency reported.

The sides hailed the importance of cooperation in the field of tourism, highlighting the steps contributing to the enhancement of the relations in this area.

Garayev expressed confidence that the visit of San Marino FM would create good opportunities to determine direction of cooperation in all fields between the two countries.

Touching upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Garayev said Armenia has occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands and more than one million Azerbaijanis have become refugees and IDPs.

He also underlined Azerbaijan`s interest in cooperation with San Marino in the field of culture.

Valentini, for his part, stressed the importance of issues which were discussed during his Azerbaijan trip. He said he would spare no efforts to develop cooperation between the two countries even further.

The ministers also discussed the implementation of joint cultural projects.

Prior to meeting with Garayev, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Foreign Minister Mammadyarov and Economy and Industry Minister Shahin Mustafayev received Valentini. The sides discussed the expansion of ties between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and San-Marino were established on April in 2002. Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Italy, Vaqif Sadiqov, is currently the nonresident ambassador of Azerbaijan to San Marino.
