Armenian military keep high tension on contact line

Over the past 24 hours, Armenian military, using mortars and large-caliber machine guns, 106 times violated ceasefire on various parts of contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported on September 2.

The ceasefire was violated from the Armenian military troops, stationed on the nameless heights and in the Berkaber village of Ijevan district, the Voskepar, Voskevan villages of Noyemberyan district of Armenia towards Azerbaijani positions located in the Gizilhajili and Gushchu Ayrim in Gazakh district of Azerbaijan.

Aside from that, Armenians stationed in the Mosesgekh village of Armenia’s Berd district violated ceasefire towards Azerbaijani positions in the Alibayli village of Tovuz district, and from the nameless heights in Armenia’s Krasnoselsk district at Azerbaijani positions on nameless heights of Azerbaijan’s Gadabay district.

Azerbaijani military positions were also fired at by Armenians stationed near the Talish village of Goranboy district, the Chilyaburt, Yarimja, Seysulan villages of Terter district, the Yusifjanli, Shuraabad, Marzili, Garagashli, Kangarli, Novruzlu, Sarijali, Javakhirli villages of Aghdam district, the Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, the Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Gorgan, Goradiz, Garakhanbayli villages of Fizuli district and the Mehdili village of Jabrail district.

Armenians were also firing from positions on nameless heights in the Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrail districts.

The enemy was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
