Palestine condemns so-called "parliamentary elections" in Karabakh

The number of countries which have condemned and rejected the fallacious "parliamentary elections" to take place in the Nagorno-Karabkh region is increasing rapidly - Palestine now joined the list, adding its voice to the long list of criticism.

Palestinian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Nasser Abdel Kareem said his country fully supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

"The State of Palestine does not recognize the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh republic", and therefore refuses to recognize the elections held there. Nagorno-Karabakh is the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan. Palestine continues to back Azerbaijan in an effort to urge Armenia to fulfill the UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the occupied territories," Kareem said.

Backed by the masterminds in Yerevan, the separatist authorities in the occupied Azerbaijani lands have scheduled "parliamentary elections" for May 3, 2015, read an earlier statement from the illegitimate "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic" president’s press office.

Kareem added that Palestinian authorities have not build diplomatic relations with Armenia so far, favoring its friendly ties with Azerbaijan.

Referring to the occupation of other country's lands, Kareem said Palestine and Azerbaijan suffer the same fate as both countries have their lands under occupation.

"There is no way that Palestine supports the elections or backs any move that violates Azerbaijan's territorial immunity. We have repeatedly talked about it giving no room for any question. This is our clear approach and President Mahmoud Abbas clarified it well when he was in Baku," the ambassador concluded.

Prior to Palestine's criticism of the fictitious "parliamentary elections" in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region, Turkey, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Latvia, Italy, and Switzerland voiced the same stance, slamming the elections as illegitimate.

In February, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry called the "parliamentary elections" by the Yerevan-backed puppet regime in Nagorno-Karabakh illegitimate, stressing that it was a deliberate move aimed at undermining peace talks and preventing any breakthrough in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Azerbaijani authorities, additionally, announced that they would asses any step taken by the puppet regime in these territories as an act of aggression on another country's territory.

As a result of Armenia's armed invasion into Azerbaijan's legal territory, the two neighboring countries remain locked in a bitter territorial dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which Armenia-backed separatists seized from Azerbaijan in a bloody war in the early 1990s.

Despite Baku's best efforts, peace in the occupied lands remains a mirage in the distance since Armenia refuses to comply with international law.

Baku proposed a Great Peace Agreement project to work jointly on the conflict's settlement. Yerevan refused, of course to seize such peace opportunity, preferring instead to support the occupation.
