Azerbaijan Constitutional Court joins AACCEI

Azerbaijan`s Constitutional Court has become a member of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutes (AACCEI) as the organization convened in Istanbul, Turkey, for its second Congress.

The congress also marked the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of the Constitutional Court of Turkey, AzerTag state news agency reported.

The event was attended by a delegation of the Constitutional Court of Austria which chairs the Conference of the Constitutional Courts of Europe, as well as the Constitutional Courts of Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Cambodia, Georgia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.

Vice-chairperson of the Azerbaijani Constitutional Court Sona Salmanova expressed gratitude to participants of the congress on behalf of Farhad Abdullayev, Chairman of the Constitutional Court.

The congress featured discussions on a wide range of issues, including the protection of human rights and freedoms, relations between the constitutional courts, the courts of higher instance and parliaments, the role of the constitutional courts in the protection of the constitutional system and social rights.

During her visit, Salmanova also met representatives of the Turkish Constitutional Court and judicial authorities of several countries to discuss legal cooperation.

The congress saw the chairmanship of the Association of the Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutes pass to Indonesia.
The next (third) congress of the Association will be held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.
