Azerbaijani-Kazakh parliaments sign agreement on cooperation

The legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have signed an agreement on further cooperation.
The document was signed by Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov and Chairman of the Majilis of the Kazakh Parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin on February 20.
In a meeting before signing the agreement, Asadov expressed confidence that Nigmatulin's visit would contribute to development of Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan ties.
The Azerbaijani parliament speaker also said relations between the two countries are deeply rooted in history.
"After gaining their independence, both countries have walked a long way to reach the present level of development," Asadov noted.
He also praised the political and economic relations between the two countries, as well as the activity of the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
For his part, Nigmatulin hailed the relationship between the two countries as 'friendly' and 'fraternal'.
"These ties are developed by efforts by Heads of States of both countries," he noted.
On the Azerbaijani-Kazakh strategic partnership, Nigmatulin expressed confidence that reciprocal visits by two sides' officials and documents signed would contribute to expanding the cooperation.
He also praised Azerbaijan's regional and international cooperation.
The Kazakh chairman hailed Azerbaijan's support for the activity of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-speaking countries.
He said the Friendship Groups in two countries' parliaments played an important role in developing the bilateral relations.
As part of the visit to Azerbaijan, Nigmatulin also visited the National Flag Square and the Baku State University.
Azerbaijanis and Kazakhs are both Turkic-speaking nations and share close historical, religious, and cultural ties. Both are the littoral states of the Caspian Sea and possess a common maritime border.
About 130,000 ethnic Azerbaijanis live in Kazakhstan.
A solid legal basis has been established between the two countries. Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have signed more than 90 documents, including 20 documents in the economic field, particularly in double taxation. These documents positively affect the development of trade relations between the two countries.
About 740 enterprises from Azerbaijan are already active in Kazakhstan. 35 companies from Kazakhstan are also working Azerbaijan.
