Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov will deliver a speech at the UN Security Council meeting under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan.

Mammadyarov arrived in New York to attend the high-level meeting which will be held under Azerbaijan's presidency of the UN Security Council, the ministry's press-service said.

The meeting will be held on the topic of "Strengthening Cooperation between the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation", it reported.

The minister is expected to make his speech in the meeting, and a statement by Azerbaijani as the President of the Security Council will be issued as well.

The development of cooperation between the UN and OIC, and the determination of various forms of this cooperation is a priority during the time Azerbaijani hold the chairmanship of the UN Security Council.

Azerbaijan was the initiator of this cooperation.

Azerbaijan has acted as a non-permanent member of the UNSC since January 1, 2012, and its membership will continue till December 31, 2013.

Azerbaijan held the chairmanship of the Security Council in May 2012, and is chairing it again in October for one month.
