Azerbaijan, UN discuss judicial reforms

Azerbaijan and the United Nations enjoy good relations, Azerbaijani Justice Minister and President of the Judicial Council Fikret Mammadov, who is visiting the United States, said at a meeting with UN Deputy Secretary General for Legal Affairs Patricia O'Brien.

Mammadov noted the successful development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations in various fields, including legal.

At the meeting, the minister informed about the work done to ensure the independence of the judiciary, construction of modern court buildings with the use of leading ICT technologies, training of judges and judicial candidates with the participation of international experts and judges.

He also spoke about the fight against corruption, including the activity of the ASAN service.

O'Brien also noted the high level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, praised the judicial and legal reforms in the country and commended the progress made.

She said the ongoing measures are important to modernize the judicial system to simplify the process of appeals to the courts by the citizens.

The sides expressed confidence that mutual activity will successfully continue in the future.

Azerbaijan's permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Agshin Mehdiyev attended the event.
