Conference on energy and maritime law held in Baku

BP and Baku State University are hosting in Baku a legal conference on Energy and Maritime Law in Azerbaijan: National and International Perspectives. This is the first conference ever organized in Azerbaijan on this topic, BP's press release says on May 24.

The other organizers of the conference are EKVITA, a local law firm, and ABA CEELI Inc., a US-based organization, who are acting in conjunction with their USAID supported Maritime and Energy Law LL.M. programme.

"This is the first event of this type and magnitude held at the birthplace of the world's oil industry - the city of Baku. We have invited a large group of national and international experts in energy and maritime law to speak at the conference. We are very pleased that legal experts from leading national and international companies, representatives of governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations are among the participants in the conference", says Abel Maharramov, Rector of Baku State University, who is one of the two keynote speakers along with Ambassador Richard Morningstar of the US to Azerbaijan.

The topics discussed at the conference include legal and tax aspects of implementation of a production sharing agreement, resolution of investment disputes in the energy industry, as well as a general discussion about the new Maritime and Energy Law LL.M. programme to be launched at Baku State University.
