Aliyev aide welcomes OIC's recognition of Khojaly genocide

Recognition of the Khojaly genocide by the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, after it was recognized by the two countries, means that most Islamic countries will give a legal assessment to the events committed 20 years ago, and it will be recognized by the international community, head of Azerbaijani Presidential Administration's Social and Political Department, Ali Hasanov said, commenting the recent resolution, adopted by the OIC ministerial council.

The council recognized Khojaly tragedy as genocide act and called on the member states to support the "Freedom for Khojaly"campaign in 2013.

Hasanov noted that Azerbaijan welcomes the recognition of Khojaly genocide.

"Through the recognition of Khojaly genocide we do not aim to establish a policy of vengeance in South Caucasus, and encourage the population's intention to avenge Armenians. By recognizing this event, we want such actions not to be repeated against mankind and humanity. We want Armenian vandalism to be adequately assessed in the world and the effect of anti-Azerbaijani propaganda to weaken," Hasanov said.

"In general, the recognition of the Khojaly genocide will ease the grief of the people who survived it to some extent," he said.

"The day will come, when the international community will witness the withdrawal of Armenian occupying forces and the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," Hasanov said.
