Azerbaijan`s first lady opens boarding school, new stadium in Baku

Azerbaijan`s first lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyeva on Thursday inaugurated the boarding school No 8 after major overhaul in Buzovna, Baku.

Mehriban Aliyeva cut a ribbon symbolizing the opening of the facility, and toured it.

The first lady was informed that the school opened in 1962. Reconstruction work started here in March, 2012. The boarding school was reconstructed at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The school consists of a hostel and main building. The facility occupies an area of 4 hectares.

The President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was informed that there was a total of 290 pupils.

The 2-storey main building has a sports hall, a library and a 160 seat-auditorium.

Mehriban Aliyeva also viewed the 3-storey hostel.

The hostel has a canteen, computer rooms and a medical facility.

Azerbaijan`s first lady praised the look of the school and conditions created here.

On the same day Mehriban Aliyeva opened a FIFA-standard stadium in Bina district of Baku.

The stadium was built at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation by the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA).

The first lady was informed the 600-seat stadium with artificial grass has a screen, referee rooms and a medical facility.

The President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was told that participants of the 2012 FIFA U-17 women`s World Cup would have trainings here.

Mrs. Aliyeva also met members of the Azerbaijan women`s U-17 football team and chatted with them.
The first lady was presented with a football shirt of the national team.

The President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation signed the national team`s ball.

The first lady viewed the cup of the 2012 FIFA U-17 world championship.
