Four men convicted in Baku over attack on expats
A Baku court on Tuesday handed down jail sentences to four men on charges of attacking a US journalist and a British rights activist in the Azerbaijani capital last year.
Nazim Huseynov was sentenced to four years in prison, while Adil Tagizada, Roman Hasanov and Vusal Gurbanov – to two years.
US journalist Amanda Erickson and British human rights activist Celia Davies were attacked on June 15, 2011 in Baku as they were walking to their apartments. Davies’ arm was broken. A criminal case had been launched on charges of hooliganism.
Erickson, who collaborates with The Washington Post and New York Times, and Davies were holding a training for local journalists and civil society activists in Baku.
