Oil platform accident kills two
Two workers have died in an accident on the offshore Gunashli field being developed by the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR, the company said on its website Monday.
The accident took place on the Gunashli-3 platform last Saturday during repair at a well, killing a drilling worker and his assistant. Details of the accident are not disclosed.
According to SOCAR, all employees of the company are aware of the safety regulations to be followed during the repair operations.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that all employees who were involved in the repair work, including the two killed in the accident, used "appropriate means of protection", SOCAR said.
The Gunashli field is part of the giant Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block of fields in the Caspian Sea, which produce most of Azerbaijan’s oil.
