Conference of senior rights defenders due in Baku this week
BAKU – An international conference of senior rights defenders will be held in Baku on June 16-18.
The ombudspersons’ conference, which will focus on the legal aspects of ethnic minorities and migrants’ cultural rights, is devoted to June 18, Human Rights Day, and the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s independence from the Soviet Union.
The UNESCO-supported event will draw ombudspersons or their representatives from Sweden, Norway, India, Thailand, Pakistan, Poland, Slovenia, Russia, Ukraine and Moldova, as well as leading international experts and scholars.
The conference will be joined by officials of the international and European ombudspersons’ institutions and the association of Asia’s senior rights defenders.
