Criminal case against youth activist suspended

BAKU – The execution of the criminal case against an Azerbaijani youth activist launched over his rallying public support for antigovernment protests on the internet has been suspended, the Prosecutor-General’s Office said.

"The case has not been dropped, but merely its execution suspended," spokesman Eldar Sultanov has said.

Elnur Majidli, a 27-year-old Baku-born blogger who lives in Paris, has used social networking websites in April and May to call on citizens to join antigovernment protests. On April 1, charges of "open calls aimed against the state" were filed against him.
