Protesters in Paris urge to free jailed Azeri journalist
BAKU – A small group of protesters picketed Azerbaijan’s embassy in Paris on Wednesday in support of Azerbaijani journalist Eynulla Fatullayev who has been jailed for four years.
The half-hour protest was supported by rights groups Reporters Without Borders, Article 19 and Amnesty International, Radio Liberty reported.
Fatullayev, the editor-in-chief of the Russian-language weekly Realny Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani-language daily Gundalik Azerbaijan, was sentenced in 2007 to eight-and-a-half years in prison on charges on inciting ethnic hatred, threatening terror and tax evasion. Fatullayev appealed to the European Court of Human Rights, which ordered the government to release him.
