Trespasser shot dead on Azeri-Iranian border
BAKU – A trespasser has been shot dead on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border after ignoring the frontier guards’ warning, Azerbaijan’s State Border Service said.
The unidentified man was ordered to stop after attempting to illegally cross the border in the Yardimli region into Iran, but he did not comply, prompting the frontier guards to open fire. The man was fatally wounded.
Investigators have identified the man as Jafar Jafarov, a Yardimli resident. Reasons for his trespassing the border are unknown.
The ongoing investigation revealed that Jafarov had been previously detained three times over violating the border.
