Azerbaijan keeps freeing its occupied land on agenda - official

BAKU – Azerbaijan has never ruled out liberation of its Armenia-occupied territory through military action and will avail of this option if necessary, First Vice-Speaker Ziyafat Asgarov told reporters Thursday.

Asked about the bellicose rhetoric of the Armenian leaders, he said that "let [Armenian President Serzh] Sargsyan first distribute among people the money raised from drug sales".

Commenting on the WikiLeaks report concerning the transit of narcotics from Iran to Armenia through the occupied land, Asgarov said "Sargsyan and his brother directly have a hand in this, it is their monopoly".

"The world community is aware of that, so let it punish them," the vice-speaker said.

Armenia and Azerbaijan waged a brutal war that claimed some 30,000 lives and displaced about a million Azerbaijanis. The hostilities, which flared up due to Armenia’s territorial claims, ended with the signing of a fragile cease-fire in 1994. About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory has been under the occupation of the Armenian armed forces since then. Peace talks have been largely fruitless so far.
