Vatican official urges peaceful Garabagh settlement
The Armenia-Azerbaijan Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict should be
settled in peace, the Vatican's Secretary of State, Cardinal
Tarcisio Bertone said on a visit to Baku last week.
"The use of force is unacceptable in the resolution of such conflicts," he said.
The cleric said the world community should influence the settlement of conflicts both in Azerbaijan and around the world. He stressed that the most important issue for the entire world was refugees and urged more vigorous efforts to solve the problem.
Bertone said the co-existence of people of different creeds in Azerbaijan sets an example for the rest of the world.
President Ilham Aliyev received the Vatican representative on Friday. Peace and high-level tolerance among people of various faiths and communities in the country was emphasized. The two also exchanged views on prospects for expanding relations between Azerbaijan and the Vatican.
