BAKU – A serviceman of Azerbaijan’s armed forces has been killed and another wounded as a result of Armenian ceasefire violations.

The 19-year-old Elman Mustafayev succumbed to fire opened outside Azerbaijan’s Upper (Nagorno) Karabakh region in the Gazakh region bordering on Armenia.

Another serviceman, Rasul Hajizada, 19, was wounded in his leg after Armenian troops opened fire near Azerbaijan’s Goranboy region. Hajizada’s condition is stable.

Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two decades. OSCE-brokered peace talks kicked off after a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a shaky cease-fire in 1994. Armenian armed forces continue to occupy over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory.
