Azerbaijan ranks 152nd on media freedom
BAKU – Azerbaijan ranks 152nd among 178 countries on media freedom, Reporters Without Borders claimed Wednesday.
The France-based group maintained in its Media Freedom Index 2010 that Azerbaijan lags behind Georgia, Armenia, Russia and Turkey. Among its neighbors, it surpasses only Iran, the report said.
One journalist and two bloggers are currently jailed in Azerbaijan on charges unrelated to their work.
Finland, Iceland and the Netherlands topped the rankings, while Eritrea, North Korea, Turkmenistan and Iran are in the bottom of the list.
