New opposition electoral blocs registered

BAKU – At its Saturday meeting, the Central Election Commission (CEC) registered two new opposition electoral blocs, "Garabag" and "For the Sake of the People", to stand in the parliamentary elections due on November 7 in Azerbaijan.
The "Garabag" bloc was set up jointly by the opposition-minded Democrat Party and Umid Party, while "For the Sake of the People" – by the Liberal and the Civil and Development parties.
The "Democracy", "PFPA-Musavat" and "Reform" electoral blocs have also applied to CEC for the registration.
The election campaign kicked off in Azerbaijan on September 4, after President Ilham Aliyev signed a relevant decree, which scheduled the next parliamentary elections for November 7.
Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority of votes system in 125 constituencies.
Previous elections were held in November of 2005.
