Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev launched the reconstruction and renovation work in Baku’s Pirshagi settlement on April 16, Azertag has reported.

First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva accompanied Aliyev during the visit.

As part of the event, President Aliyev and First Vice-President Aliyeva familiarized themselves with the Haji Shahverdi bath, one of the monuments to be restored in Pirshagi. The locals know it as the "Sand Bath". One of the main goals during the renovation is to restore and discover historical monuments. Later, the head of state and the first lady planted trees in the settlement. Then Aliyev and his spouse got acquainted with the settlement.

The settlement will be renovated as part of special renovation work launched in Baku’s settlements and Absheron district under President Aliyev’s instruction issued in 2019. The process is underway in the capital's Bibiheybat, Novkhani, Amirjan, Ramana settlements.

Pirshagi will get a new look and shape. The main purpose of the taken measures is to make the people there live in better conditions and feel more comfortable. Pirshagi has historically been considered a favourable area for climate therapy. Improving the environmental situation in the settlement has been set as the final goal.

Existing buildings and open spaces are to be renovated in the settlement. It is planned to build a park in front of the mosque in the central part in line with the eastern gardening traditions. In the centre of the park, there is a water basin and roads are separated from it in four directions.

Renovation works in Pirshagi will also have a positive impact on employment. The vast majority of those involved in the process are locals. It is not ruled out that relevant products will be produced in Pirshagi, which aims to become one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the post-pandemic period with its new face.

Mardakan, Buzovna and Mashtaga settlements are expected to join the renovation process this year. These projects implemented in Baku’s settlements and Absheron district are of special importance both in terms of history and existing realities.
