President meets Jordan`s king in Amman
Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva met Monday at the Al-Hummar Palace in Amman with Jordan`s King Abdullah II and his spouse Rania, Azertag state news agency reported.
The sides mentioned the successful development of the Azerbaijani-Jordan relations in different fields. The presidents underlined the importance of high-level mutual visits.
President Aliyev and King Abdullah II expressed confidence that bilateral relationship would continue to deepen.
After a private meeting, Aliyev and Abdullah II met in the presence of delegations.
The King praised President Aliyev`s visit to Jordan, saying ``this visit will lead to further expansion of political and economic ties.``
The Azeri leader said strong political relations of the two countries create all-rounded framework to boost bilateral cooperation. He noted that an earlier official visit by King Abdullah II to Azerbaijan played an important role in the development of relations.
Aliyev praised Jordan`s support to Azerbaijan in international organizations.
The president said documents to be signed in Amman will provide additional opportunities to strengthen bilateral ties.
He hailed work of the intergovernmental economic commission in expanding economic cooperation.
On the same day, the Azeri president met with Jordan`s Prime Minister Nader Dahabi. The talks focused on opportunities to expand bilateral relations in various fields, especially economic cooperation.
Aliyev`s visit comes as part of a series of visits exchanged between the two sides. King Abdullah visited Baku twice, in 2006 and 2008, while Aliyev visited Amman in 2007.
The trade turnover between the two countries stood at $2 million in 2008, according to the Jordan Times.
