PACE body remands list of would-be judges
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) body in
charge of nominating judges for the European Court of Human Rights
has returned the list of Azerbaijani candidates for improvement for
the second time.
Head of Secretariat at the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Andrew Drzemczewski, explained the move by the lack of compliance of the list with the required standards. The reasons for the measure were detailed in a letter forwarded to the Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis, who may elaborate on the matter on Wednesday. "We expect Azerbaijan to submit a new list soon," Drzemczewski added.
Three Azerbaijani candidates have been nominated for the positions - Khanlar Hajiyev, who has already served as a European court judge, the judge of the Azizbayov district of Baku Rashad Hasanov and the Nasimi district court judge Aygun Abdullayeva.
