Serbia thanks Azerbaijan for support

Baku hosted a seminar on a Common Transit Convention and a New Computerized Transit System (NCTS) started in the European Regional Office of the World Customs Organization (WCO) on capacity building on December 5.

The seminar was supported by the International Organization for Migration within the framework of the Eastern Partnership program of the European Union.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Chairman of the State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev made remarks on large-scale projects implemented by the country to expand transit opportunities in the future that will create favorable conditions for increasing freight traffic and will make an important contribution to the development of international trade in general.

Aliyev underlined that joining the General Transit Procedure and the Trade Facilitation Convention was one of the important targets of the action plan of SCC for 2017-2021.

The Chairman of the Committee spoke about the steps taken to join the New Computerized Transit System in Europe, the benefits of this system Azerbaijan and the region.

Highly appreciating the participation in the seminar of customs officers of Serbia, Aliyev expressed confidence that the availability of large transit opportunities and experience in Serbia is an interesting example for Azerbaijan.

Darius Mrovich, the employee of Frontex, the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States, spoke about the projects implemented by the organization and its structure, and said that the main goal of the organization is to facilitate border crossing of individuals and cargoes.

Then, the representative of the Customs Service of the Republic of Serbia Veselin Milosevic spoke briefly about the issues to be discussed at the seminar and discussed the benefits of NCTS. Milosevic expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan, the State Customs Committee on behalf of the country's government for supporting Kosovo's position on the WTO accession issue.

The three-day seminar will provide participants with detailed information by Veselin Milosevic, Olga Protic, and Vladan Vukovic on the Serbian transit system customs officers of the Republic of Serbia, the requirements of the NCTS system in Azerbaijan, the basic principles and benefits of NCTS, the National Project Plan and other issues.
