Foreign writers demand pay for translated books
Some foreign writers have demanded payment for the publication of
literary works in the Azerbaijani language.
The authors warned they would not authorize release of the publications otherwise. The demand has caused a problem with the enforcement of the president's relevant decree, the Agency of Copyrights told AssA-Irada.
Several writers or their heirs cited specific amounts during their talks with Azerbaijani representatives. But the demand cannot be met, as the publication of foreign literature is a non-profit project. Nonetheless, the proposals on the payment of copyright fees have been forwarded to the government of Azerbaijan, which is now required to issue an accurate list of the works to be published and to clarify the payment issue. Only after that will legal matters on acquiring the copyrights be addressed.
