Public interest in privatization shares down
The term of privatization cheques (vouchers)
distributed to Azerbaijani citizens in 1997 will expire by the end
of 2009. Further, only 52% of the cheques have been used since they
were released into circulation.
Experts say that if the situation remains unchanged, it will not be possible to use all the available vouchers during the remaining year and the government will have to extend their validity.
As the remaining time is running out, the price of the cheques is falling. The price per privatization share, which consists of four cheques, has gone down 15% in past weeks to 14 manats ($17).
