The Business Year (TBY), a leading provider of business information and publisher of annual trade and investment resources, recently met with Mir Jamal Pashayev, Director of Pasha Holding, to discuss the recent activity of the company.

The interview with Mir Jamal Pashayev will form part of TBY’s sixth periodical on the economy of Azerbaijan, The Business Year: Azerbaijan 2016. During the interview, Pashayev told TBY about Pasha Holding’s new investmentas a minority equity holder in SOCAR’s polymer project, stressing the rising importance of the petrochemical industry as it is redeveloped in Azerbaijan in accordance with best practices and modern technologies. Pashayev also touched on expansion efforts at Pasha Holding, including the company’s entrance into the agriculture sector.

Pasha Holding now has two pilot projects underway in agriculture and Pashayev asserted that the “next boom in Azerbaijan should be in agriculture.” Pashayev spoke about the new private equity services at Pasha Holding, which, as a method of alternative financing,aim to foster growth and competitiveness for potential firms in Azerbaijan. He added,“We have developed a model where we can assist these companies through our private equity investment fund, rather than our banks.

Because this is a risky model, we have also required some of our candidate clients to do some reforms in terms of financial management and corporate governance. In our private equity portfolio, we have around 10-15 projects.” He continued, “I would like private equity to become a pillar of business for Pasha Holding because the upside is enormous.”
