Foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy increase by over 40 percent per year

The total amount of foreign investments in Azerbaijan's economy amounted to 1.850.1 billion manat in January-June 2013, which is 41.4 per cent more compared to the same period of last year, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said on July 21.

Around 86.4 per cent (1.598.3 billion manat) of investments in Azerbaijan's economy made by foreign countries and international organisations fell to investors from the UK, USA, Japan, Norway, Turkey and the Czech Republic in January-June 2013.

UK continues to maintain a leading position in the list of foreign investors in Azerbaijan. Its share in the total foreign investment was 40.3 per cent, while investments totalled 746.5 million manat.

U.S. investments totalled 228.5 million manat (with a market share of 12.4 per cent), Japanese - 173.4 million manat (9.4 per cent), Norwegian - 208.1 million manat (11.2 per cent), Turkish - 112.6 million manat (6.1 per cent), Czech - 129.1 million manat (7 per cent), French - 58.6 million manat (3.2 per cent), Russia and Iran - 46.5 million manat each (2.5 per cent).

Among international financial institutions, the largest volume of investments was allocated by the World Bank - 66.1 million manat with a share of 3.6 per cent. The Asian Development Bank directed 23.3 million manat (1.3 per cent) to implement the projects in Azerbaijan in January-June and the Islamic Development Bank - 1.09 million manat.

The official exchange rate on July 20 is 0.7844 AZN / USD.
