Israel seeks to increase trade with Azerbaijan

The Israeli government is going to significantly increase trade turnover with Azerbaijan in 2013, Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan Rafael Harpaz said on Thursday,Trend news agency reported.

He noted that this year's turnover amounted to more than $4 billion, and there are good prospects to increase this figure in 2013.

"Azerbaijan has a good business climate, and Israeli companies interested in cooperation with the country," Harpaz said.

The Azerbaijan government is planning to sign an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation, cooperation in agriculture, the agreement on simplification of visa regime for persons with diplomatic and service passports in order to attract Israeli companies, the ambassador said.

Harpaz said the energy sector is another important area of ​​cooperation.

"Oil and gas fields have been found recently in Israel, and the government intends to study the experience of Azerbaijan in this field," Harpaz said.

Today, Israeli companies are active in Azerbaijan in such areas as agriculture, water management and water supply, healthcare, and telecommunications. The cooperation in cyber technology is also planned, the ambassador said.

He added that it is planned to create the Israel-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce, which, according to the Israeli side, will have a positive impact on the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries, in order to enhance cooperation
