Volumes of power exports to Turkey announced

Azerbaijan intends to export electricity in the amount of 750 million kilowatt hours per year to Turkey via Georgia under the Energy Bridge project, general director of Turkey`s state electricity selling company Tetas, Hadji Duran Gokkaya, told the Baku-based Trend news agency.

``We have held talks with Azerenergy [engaged in production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan] and achieved positive results. The amounts of energy and export routes were negotiated,`` said Gokkaya, who led the Turkish delegation at the recent talks in Baku.

Gokkaya added that only one unresolved issue remains -- whether the private or public sector will carry out the exports.

As for the timing of the exports, he said deadlines will be announced at the next meeting with representatives of Azerenergy, who will visit Turkey in the near future.

Azerenergy said earlier that the company will start exporting electricity to Turkey via Georgia this year.

The Azerbaijani electricity exports to Turkey aim to connect the power distribution systems of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia.
