World customs body opens Europe regional office in Baku
The World Customs Organization’s (WCO) regional office for Europe opened in the Azerbaijani capital Baku on Monday.
State Customs Committee chairman Aydin Aliyev said at the opening that 175 countries had voted for establishing the regional office in Azerbaijan.
"As a result of propaganda activities, Armenia [Azerbaijan’s long-time foe] did not vote against the measure either," Aliyev said.
According to him, WCO’s work in one of the six regions it operates in will thus be coordinated in Baku and cover the customs bodies of 51 countries. Employees from a number of countries will work at the new office.
"This will both give an incentive to the development of Azerbaijani customs and contribute to the country’s further recognition in the world," Aliyev said.
