Representatives of the Turkish private sector will consider investing in the ICT sector of Azerbaijan within the framework of their forthcoming visit to Baku.

Board Member of Turkey's Electrical Electronics and Services Exporters Association Salahaddin Esim said about this on November 22.

The sides will discuss the two countries' cooperation in this field, taking into account the attraction of investments in the ICT sector of Azerbaijan, he said.

In the post-oil period, Turkey and Azerbaijan need to form a strategic partnership in the field of communication, according to Esim.

The Turkish delegation will include representatives of 12 companies.

During the meetings scheduled for December 1-2, the delegation will meet with representatives of the private and public sector in Azerbaijan, as well as visit an international exhibition BakuTel-2016 to be held on November 29 - December 2.

ICT is considered to be one of the crucial spheres for the further development of the economy and an integral part of the economic and political reforms which are currently implemented in Azerbaijan.

Overall, the ICT sector has intensively developed in Azerbaijan over the past years.
Creation and developing of the e-Government system, expanding the broadband internet services, launch of the telecommunication and low-orbit satellites, and many other are the evidence of Azerbaijan’s success in this sphere.

The volume of investments made in the sphere of ICT and postal services amounted to 209.8 million manats ($ 129.4 million) in January-September 2016. The volume increased twofold as compared to the same period of 2015, while the index amounted to some 1.8 percent of the total volume of investments made in the economy of the country.

The income obtained in the sector in Azerbaijan is projected to hit $9 billion by 2020.
