Azerbaijani athletes gladden their fans

Azerbaijan has won another gold at the Baku 2015 European Games on June 25, thus bringing the total number of gold medals to 15.

The gold medal was received by Azerbaijan’s Teymur Mammadov in men’s boxing.

Mammadov beat Valentino Manfredonia (Italy) on unanimous points decision to win the men's light heavyweight (81kg) gold medal.

On his way to gold, Teymur Mammadov outclassed Russian Pavil Silyagin with 3-0.

President Ilham Aliyev, First lady Mehriban Aliyeva, who is also the chairperson of the Baku 2015 First European Games Organizing Committee, and family members watched the Azerbaijani boxer’s final bout.

Commenting on his victory, Mammadov said that the World Cup will take place soon and he intends to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Moreover, Azerbaijani female fencers, sisters Sevil Bunyatova and Sevinc Bunyatova won silver and bronze respectively, in women’s individual sabre fencing on June 25.

The Azerbaijani women’s volleyball team lost to the Turkish team in the semifinals on June 25. The national team of Azerbaijan will now fight to clinch third place.

President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and members of their families attended the semifinal match.

Currently, Azerbaijan holds 46 medals, 13 silver, and 18 bronze.

Fencing, swimming, badminton, judo, boxing, BMX cycling, beach soccer, 3х3 basketball and volleyball events will all be held on June 26.

The athletes will compete for 23 medal sets: 2 sets in 3х3 basketball, five in boxing, three in fencing, six in judo and seven in swimming.

Azerbaijani athletes will participate in all events to be held June 26, except for badminton and volleyball.
