Dead bodies of six missing Azerbaijani oil workers found - UPDATE

The Emergency Situations Ministry of Azerbaijan has pulled out from the Caspian Sea the dead bodies of six oil workers as a result of the search operation.

The bodies were found by the helicopters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in 65-70 kilometers from the platform of Guneshli field at 13:20 (UTC/GMT + 4 hours).

Dead bodies of Fuad Taghiyev and Aga Mahmudov have already been brought ashore, the ministry reported on December 7.

Earlier on December 4, a fire broke out on the offshore platform #10 of SOCAR’s Gunashli field, after an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline was damaged in strong storm.

As many as 33 people have been rescued in a large-scale operation. Earlier one person was found dead and his body was handed over to his relatives. Some 23 people are still considered missing.

The rescue works for the oilmen missing after a fire on the platform #10 in the Caspian Sea will continue till the end, an Azneft official has said.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani production union, Azneft is developing additional actions plan to put out the fire on the offshore platform #10, the official on said December 7.

Azerbaijan continues searches for the missing oil workers both at the offshore field Gunashli and at the Oil Rocks. The searches were continued at night with help of vessels, and today the searches were rejoined by helicopters.

A special headquarters, headed by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev, is working on the accident scene. The headquarters was transferred from platform #5 to the “Neftgaz-62” vessel, making it possible to approach the faulty platform #10.
