Iran’s position toward the United States remains unchanged, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said at a press conference with journalists in Tehran, AzerNEWS reports.

“Iran maintains its firm position toward the United States. There is no doubt about that. Nevertheless, those talks, discussions and diplomatic efforts have forced the United States to seek an agreement with Iran,” Pezeshkian said.

The Iranian president stressed that Tehran must preserve the gains achieved through diplomacy. He said the other side must comply with the instructions and terms agreed upon by Iran and Oman.

“If they do not comply, Iran will also respond,” Pezeshkian said, adding that in such cases, a committee would be formed to address violations of the memorandum of understanding.

“The process is being monitored in any case. We hope that efforts will continue to protect Iran’s pride and honor,” he said.

Tensions between Iran and the United States escalated again on July 8. On that day, US forces carried out several waves of strikes against Iranian territory, reportedly in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes came after a memorandum had been signed between Washington and Tehran.

US President Donald Trump also announced that same day that the ceasefire with Iran had been terminated.

In response, Tehran began launching strikes against US facilities located in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Iranian authorities have said that the Strait of Hormuz is currently closed.
