Western Union, MoneyGram resume ops

The Western Union and MoneyGram money transfer systems have resumed
operations in Azerbaijan a week after they were banned due to their
also operating in Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh, an Azeri region under
Armenian occupation.
The transactions via these systems are back in service, the National Bank of Azerbaijan (NBA) said Thursday.
The transfer and receipt of money in local banks via Western Union and MoneyGram, as well as several other international payment systems, was halted on July 30 after it had been discovered that they were wiring money to Garabagh separatists.
Jonathan Knaus, Western Union Vice-President, visited Baku on August 7 following the incident and held talks with NBA executives. At the conclusion of discussions, the company accepted all of the central bank`s demands and ended its operation in Upper Garabagh. MoneyGram followed suit.
