Georgia, Latvia satisfied with bilateral co-op level

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Solvita Āboltiņa.

The sides discussed the issues of close cooperation between the two countries, the prime minister's press service reported.

Āboltiņa reiterated her support for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration process.

Garibashvili thanked her for support, noting that Latvia is among the countries supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia in the European Union, as well as at various international forums.

The sides spoke about the ongoing reforms in Georgia and the achieved success on the way to the European integration was noted with pleasure. The hope was expressed that Georgia will sign the Association Agreement with European Union in June.

The sides discussed the strengthening inter-parliamentary relations. Garibashvili noted with satisfaction that the Latvian Parliamentary friendship group with Georgia is the most numerous.

Their discussion also referred to the cultural-educational relations and the importance of the exchange programs between the higher educational institutions of the two countries.

During the visit, Āboltiņa also met with her Georgian counterpart David Usupashvili.

The sides discussed the relations between the two countries. They noted with satisfaction that the countries cooperate fruitfully not only at the level of parliaments, but also the governments of Georgia and Latvia.

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and Latvia were established on March 11, 1993.
