Tbilisi says NATO to appraise Georgia's progress

By Jamila Babayeva
Georgia's progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration will be appraised at the NATO Summit in Wales.
Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze made the remark commenting on German Chancellor Angela Merkel's statement that granting Georgia a NATO MAP will not be considered at the summit in Wales.
Merkel earlier said she does not consider it necessary to grant the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) to Georgia at the Wales Summit.
Panjikidze said Merkel stated that NATO will be able to appraise Georgia's Euro-Atlantic aspirations at this stage without granting a MAP.
She said Georgia's progress will necessarily be assessed adequately by NATO and it will happen at the summit in Wales in September 2014.
"At the bilateral meetings in Germany, the sides discussed how to fix Georgia's progress at the summit in Wales, besides granting the MAP," she said.
