Tbilisi claims violation of country’s airspace
By Jamila Babayeva
An-2 plane violated Georgian airspace and flew several times
over the dividing line on the border with the breakaway region -
Abkhazia on April 9, Georgian First Deputy Minister David
Zalkaliani told journalists.
"The preliminary information says that it was a reconnaissance
flight, during which photos of the Georgian military units`
deployment areas were shot," he said.
Zalkaliani noted that the Foreign Ministry will carefully examine
all the circumstances of the incident.
"The information about the violation of Georgia's airspace will
be submitted to the international organizations," he added.
Zalkaliani stressed that Georgia will investigate all the
circumstances of violations of the country's airspace. "All the
international organizations and parties of the Geneva talks will be
informed about the incident," he noted.
Georgia and Russia, its giant northern neighbor, have maintained no diplomatic relations since a brief war in 2008. Tbilisi broke off relations with Moscow in August 2008 when Moscow crushed a Georgian assault to reassert control over two rebel regions -South Ossetia and Abkhazia- and later recognized the regions. Georgia announced the two unrecognized republics as occupied territories in September 2008.
