Two former Iranian presidents 'unlikely' to stand in election
Iranian presidential hopeful Hassan Rohani says that it is unlikely that former presidents Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammad Khatami will run for president, the Khabaronline news website reported.
In the past week, there has been growing speculation about the
possibility of two prominent reformist politicians running in the
upcoming presidential election.
Rohani, who is a member of the Expediency Council, is seen as a
close figure to both Hashemi and Khatami.
Asked whether Hashemi and Rafsanjani will give their support to him
in the race, Rohani said that it will be known in the coming
weeks.
The eleventh election of the President of Iran is scheduled to be held on June 14 to elect the seventh President, successor of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is barred from standing for a third term.
