Iran plans to invest in mini LNG plants
By Sara Rajabova
Iran is considering to invest $100 million in construction of a large number of mini liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants across the country.
Iran's Deputy Oil Minister Hamidreza Araqi made the remark, noting that eight investors have already declared their readiness to invest in the project, Iran's Shana news agency reported.
Araqi, who is also the Managing-Director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said, at present, more investors have expressed their readiness to build mini LNG plants in Iran and nearly $100 million of investment is estimated to be required for the construction of such small refineries.
He went on to note that the project aims at feeding enough gas to big industries and power plants in cold months, when the households' consumption rises.
Araqi said the plan is economically justified and environment-friendly.
He further added that the company plans to construct more pipelines to deliver gas to remote villages across the country.
Iran's Oil Ministry has repeatedly supported all international and domestic investment in the country's oil, gas and petrochemical sectors.
It was reported previously that Iran plans to build several mini liquefied natural gas (LNG) production units in order to transport gas to the provinces which are far from gas sources.
Constructing mini LNG units in different provinces will also reduce Iran's costs to transport gas to all parts of the country.
Araqi expressed optimism that Iran can achieve the mini LNG know-how at the shortest possible time thanks to the country's technological capabilities and investment by the private sector.
