Along with processing of recycled waste, Tamiz Shahar company plans to build a system of processing non-household waste, such as car tyres, electrical, electronic and hazardous waste, the company said on July 17.

Tamiz Shahar has taken a number of measures to establish the first industrial park in the region in the field of waste management and to attract investors, and made significant progress in this regard.

The industrial park in Balakhani settlement of the capital Baku was established in December 2012. Extensive work has been done to develop the park.

In order to set up a processing plant for electric and electronic waste Tamiz Shahar signed a memorandum with the Turkish company Exitcom Recycling, which has extensive experience in the field. According to the memorandum, first, it is planned to collect this type of waste from large enterprises and then to process it. Discussions on these issues are underway with such major companies as Azercell Telecom and PASA Holding.

During the following stage, a state commission headed by the Economic Development Ministry was established to collect this type of waste from the population. Moreover, work has started on applying the principle of extended producer responsibilities in the country.

Recycling electronic and electrical waste in the Park will save resources and energy and reduce the reliance on imports of raw materials, giving an impetus to the development of the "green business" in Azerbaijan, and will reduce the damage to the environment and human health.

The park also has special benefits for potential investors. The location of the park, its closeness to transport links and to both the domestic and foreign markets facilitate the sale of goods made from recycled materials.

Internal and external infrastructure of the park is a big advantage for investors. Residents of the park will be provided with water, electricity, sanitation system, gas and heating, telephone and Internet connection, as well as domestic services such as scales for trucks, a warehouse, a bank, a post office and a workshop.

Tamiz Shahar was established to work on improving the environmental situation of the capital city through disposal of solid household waste in accordance with modern standards.

Waste sorting and reprocessing are the main utilization issues pertaining to waste management. Sorting will produce a secondary raw materials market as well as protect natural resources, energy, the country's territory and environment. Taking into account all these factors, waste sorting is one of the top priorities for Tamiz Shahar in its waste management practices.
