President of France-Armenia friendship group accused of corruption
By Laman Sadigova
The President of the France-Armenia friendship group of the French Senate, Philippe Kaltenbach, has been suspected of corruption.
An investigation revealed that the politician during his tenure as mayor of the city of Clamart, France illegally distributed flats, which were intended for low-income citizens, with the help of his assistant.
French law enforcement bodies claim to have a video clearly show Kaltenbach receiving money for his illegal actions.
The prosecutor in the case is demanding that he be sentenced to two years probation, a fine in the amount of 20,000 euros, and to ban him from assuming public and political positions for the next five years.
Kaltenbach is one of the most active supporters of the law criminalizing the so-called "Armenian genocide."
The lengthy story of the Armenian “genocide,” which allegedly occurred some hundred years ago in 1915 has been a source of constant disputes and tensions between Turkey and several western countries, particularly the U.S. and France, both home to large Armenian diasporas.
The Turkish leadership continues to call on Armenia to give up its efforts to politicize a historical tragedy. Clearly, Armenia is only looking to establish itself as a permanent victim to gain financial compensation and exert pressure on its powerful neighbor -- Turkey.
