Iran to build two new satellites
Iranian Minister of Communication Mahmoud Vaezi said the country has plans to build two new satellites.
A telecommunication satellite is going to be ready in three years while another remote-sensing satellite is also on the agenda, he said, Mehr news agency reported on August 18.
He also underlined that none of the previously commenced aerospace projects will be diminished.
Commenting on the telecommunication satellite, he said the satellite is going to be Iran’s national satellite to cover a broad range of services from banking to mobile and internet service providers as well as meteorological services.
Iran launched its first indigenous satellite, Omid (Hope), in 2009, and also sent its first bio-capsule containing living creatures into space in February 2010, using the indigenous Kavoshgar-3 (Explorer-3) carrier.
Vaezi further said international agreements will be made to accomplish satellite missions that have remained from the past.
In the meantime he stressed that the Communication Ministry will observe the major policy of resistance economy and use domestic capabilities as much as possible before resorting to international resources.
The “resistance economy” was introduced by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, emphasizing minimum reliance on help from abroad and instead tapping national resources.
