Georgia seeks to refuse electricity export from 2018

Georgia intends to completely refuse electricity import from 2018, according to the Georgian Energy Ministry.

The country will be able to reduce the import of electricity down to 0.21 billion kW/ph in 2016 due to the construction of the new electric plants.

The Ministry plans to increase the electricity in Georgia from 10.96 billion kW/ph produced in 2015 to 12 billion kW/ph-in 2016, to 12.74 billion kW/ph-in 2017 and 2018, 13.71 billion kW/ph-in 2019, and to 15.15 billion kW/ph-in 2020.

The country seek to brought the electricity generation up to 37 billion kW/ph in 2025, and up to 50.37 billion kW/ph by 2030.

The main volume of electricity in Georgia will be produced at the hydro power plants.

The Ministry predicts the production of electricity in amount of 8.7 billion kW/ph in 2015, as many as 9.36 billion kW/ph-in 2016, 10.03 billion kW/ph-in 2019, 13.24 billion kW/ph-in 2020. The electricity production in Georgia is planning to be at the level of 24.4 billion kW/ph, 24.4 billion kW/ph-2030.

The demand on the electricity in the internal market of Georgia is expected to risen at the same time.

Particularly, the demand on electricity in Georgia will increase from 10.44 billion kW/ph in 2015 to 10.74 billion kW/ph-in 2016, and 11.08 billion kW/ph-in 2017. The demand is predicted to be at the level of 9.67 billion kW/ph in 2018, 10.15 billion kW/ph-in 2019, 10.66 billion kW/ph-in 2020, 13.61 billion kW/ph-in 2025, 17.37 billion kW/ph-in 2030.

The surplus of electricity production is planned to be exported. The ministry plans to increase the electricity export from Georgia at the level of 0.57 billion kW/ph in 2015, 0.98 billion kW/ph-in 2016, 1.37 billion kW/ph-in 2017, 2.56 billion kW/ph-in 2018, 3.01 billion kW/ph-in 2019. It is planned to increase the electricity export up to 3.88 billion kW/ph by 2020, up to 22.57 billion kW/ph-in 2025, up to 31.15 billion kW/ph-in 2030.
