Top Iranian official in Jordan for talks on Syrian conflict
Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has arrived in Amman to
hold talks with Jordanian officials and review ways of using
regional capacities to resolve the Syrian conflict, ISNA news
agency reported.
Upon his arrival, Salehi warned that the escalation of violence in
Syria will have impacts on the entire region that could be
irreparable.
He said that Iran and Jordan share a common view on the Syrian
conflict, adding they both reject foreign intervention and favor
measures that safeguard Syria's territorial integrity and national
unity.
The top Iranian diplomat pointed to the presence of nearly half a
million Syrian refugees in Jordan, saying that it has put a great
deal of pressure on the Jordanian government and people.
Salehi noted that Iran is seeking initiatives to counter terrorism
which has affected the whole region.
He went on to note that the Prime Minister of Qatar is scheduled to
visit Tehran next week.
